Slow Dollar

Review:

She's back! Judge Deborah Knott is attending opening night at the annual Harvest Festival carnival in Colleton County, North Carolina. The sights, the sounds, and the smells take her back to her youth when she attended the carnival with her parents or some of her eleven older brothers. But unlike previous visits to the carnival, murder is an unexpected "attraction." The murder victim has a family connection to the Knott family. With the help of Dwight Bryant, a member of the sheriff's department and a childhood friend, Deborah begins to unravel the threads that will unveil the killer. While still investigating the first murder, a second murder occurs at the carnival. What is the connection between the two murders? Things are not always as they seem, and it takes some probing to connect the dots that will unmask the killer. Margaret Maron's prose is crisp and delightful. Come along and enjoy the roller coaster ride to the solution. After all, "a quick dime is better than a slow dollar"--or is it?
