A Fountain Filled with Blood

Julia
Spencer-Fleming
Review:

Gay men are being assaulted in the Adirondacks town of Millers Kill, NY. Do the attackers really loathe homosexuals, or is the violence a cover for something worse? Could the attacks be linked somehow to contaminants found near a resort’s construction site? Episcopal priest Clare Fergusson is determined to warn the community of the hate crimes, but police chief Russ Van Alstyne wants to wait until the purpose of the attacks becomes clearer. Clare’s attraction to the married chief does little to help her dilemma, especially when the crimes start affecting her personal and professional life. And Russ is having a tough enough time fighting his feelings for Clare without having to arrest his mother during a protest demonstration. As a former Army helicopter pilot, Clare isn’t prone to wringing her hands, so she joins Russ in his inquiry, much to his annoyance. Their investigation culminates in a helicopter rescue sure to send you running for the Dramamine. A Fountain Filled with Blood is author Julia Spencer-Fleming’s successful follow-up to her debut novel, In the Bleak Midwinter, which has received many honors, including St. Martin’s Press/Malice Domestic Best First Traditional Mystery and the Agatha Award.
